Facebook Questions Tool...Advertising or Market Scanning?

sYou may have noticed the influx of bar graphs in Facebook, as it launched the new "Questions" tool. Is it just for fun, or could this be a strategic way for companies to gather market data about their customers? Or could businesses use this new tool to advertise options at their store. Imagine....

It's a hot, sunny, summer day. You are relaxing around the house, trying to escape the heat, trying to escape the chore list for sure...and so you are Facebooking. All of a sudden the ice cream parlor a block away posts a question: Which treat to you prefer? A twisted cone, a chocolate sundae, or a banana boat? FB friends have already answered, and there is a race to see which treat is the community favorite. You click YOUR favorite, and realize that, all of a sudden, you have a craving for a banana boat. Before you debate too long, off you head to get it.

It's a reasonable use for the tool, it's fun because any of us can create it, and it's priceless for the local ice cream store to find out a 'favorite' that can be used in promotions. Have you created a question in Facebook yet?
